Sorry for the wall of text.Here at Ars Technica, we don't bother posting the vast majority of game trailers that PR companies try to pitch to us. As others have said, best to stick to playing friends, who'll treat the game in a similar spirit to yourself and play just for the fun of it. On PS3 I just blocked the mofo after 2 games and avoided him. That's the other thing about playing Xcom 2 multiplayer on PC.it's apparently really easy to change your name so it's harder to avoid distasteful opponents.

I mention this because there's a nefarious and abusive that's been playing under my name because I upset him on a forum. I've stayed away from multiplayer in the hope that some of these issues might be fixed. And there are a good few of those.īy the way, most of my knowledge comes from watching others play on youtube, ( ) for example. XCom 2 though, despite its cool maps, has limited replayability, unless you're a rankings-table-obsessive-disconnecting-numpty. EW still had that to a degree, although mechs and cheap drones started to ruin it. EU used to have a rock, paper, scissor feel.there were some strategies that were better than others but none that you could use repeatedly without your opponents getting wise to it and building a counter squad.

The ranking table obsessives all use similar squads over and over again (phantom ranger, demo expert, 3 officers and 1 other). The RNG goodness of EU multiplayer is a distant memory. Not only the limited loadouts, as you mention, but it still hasn't been balanced for points yet so the whole meta is dominated by 400 point, tier 3, advent officers with 12 hp, high damage weapons and grenades that shred 2 armour.īut the worst thing is that cover removal is still the only dominant strategy.
